Questions you often ask us:

1What is Hyalofemme?
Hyalofemme is hormone-free, paraben-free, perfume-free vaginal moisturiser. It provides relief from the main symptoms of vaginal dryness – itching, irritation and sexual discomfort. It can also help prevent infections that commonly arise from vaginal dryness.
2What is the difference between moisturisers and lubricants?
Vaginal moisturiser provides and maintains moisture inside the vagina, helping the vaginal tissue to stay hydrated. Vaginal lubricant provides short-term lubrication, sometimes necessary during sex. Hyalofemme is not a lubricant, but a moisturiser. It helps maintain vaginal health and comfort. However, by using Hyalofemme regularly, it can regenerate the vaginal tissue enough to make spontaneous sex possible without using a lubricant. Learn more from this infographic.
3How does Hyalofemme work?
The active ingredient in Hyalofemme is Hydeal-D®, a unique optimised version of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural lubricating and moisturising substance found in the skin and around the joints, and is widely used in skin care and medical products due to its excellent biocompatibility and hydrating properties. Hyaluronic acid can absorb many times its own weight in water. This is slowly released to give a long-lasting moisturising effect. Hydeal-D® is an improved version of hyaluronic acid. It can hold much more water and it is small enough to go inside the cell, and rehydrate it from the inside. Clinical trials have shown that Hyalofemme is as effective as 0.1% oestriol cream. There is pre-clinical data to suggest that it can reverse vaginal atrophy, and it supports self-defence mechanisms in the vaginal epithelium which help prevent vaginal infections. You can learn more here.
4Hyalofemme looks different. What has changed?
Hyalofemme is now packaged with a bright new look. Some people have concerns about the safety of parabens in cosmetic products so it has been removed from the formula. The new version is still made with the unique, patented Hydeal-D which makes it work so well, so you will enjoy the benefits just as you did before.
5What are the ingredients?
The active ingredient is Hydeal-D®. It also contains propylene glycol, methylpropanediol, carbomer, 1,2-hexanediol, caprylyl glycol, sodium hydroxide and purified water.
6How do I use Hyalofemme?
You can find detailed instructions for use here. Hyalofemme is mucoadhesive, so you can use it only once every three days. One tube of 30g Hyalofemme will last you a month when used as directed. For more detailed directions, consult the information leaflet within the box.
7How often should I use Hyalofemme?
Due to its powerful mucoadhesive properties, Hyalofemme should be applied only once every three days. If dryness is severe, you can use it more often if required.
8When is best to use Hyalofemme?
It’s best used regularly at night/day.
9How will Hyalofemme affect my sex life?
As the condition of your vagina improves, you may return to being able to enjoy spontaneous sex life. It is not necessary to use Hyalofemme immediately before sex. It will not affect your partner during sex. It is not harmful when ingested and has no taste or smell. If you feel the need for extra lubrication during sex, Hyalofemme is safe to use with any over-the-counter, water-based lubricant. Since it is not oil based, Hyalofemme is safe to use with lubricated/non-lubricated latex and polyisoprene condoms, but not polyurethane condoms. Please bear in mind that Hyalofemme is not a contraceptive.
10Can I use Hyalofemme with contraception?
Hyalofemme does not contain oils and it is safe to use with with lubricated/non-lubricated latex and polyisoprene condoms, diaphragms, female condoms and even systemic/long acting reversible contraception, but not polyurethane condoms. Please bear in mind that Hyalofemme is not a contraceptive.
11Can I use Hyalofemme when trying to conceive?
Hyalofemme does not interfere with normal reproductive function, and is safe to use if you are trying for a baby.
12Can I use Hyalofemme during my period?
Yes, although the gel may make your menstrual flow thicker. Also, blood flow may make it more difficult for the gel to deliver moisture to the cells because it is harder for it to stick to the cells.
13Why have I experienced discharge?
Due to its mucoadhesive properties, reports of Hyalofemme causing discharge are not common. A small number of women after using Hyalofemme have reported discharge. This is perfectly normal and is just a combination of Hyalofemme and dead cells. Usually the drier your vagina is, the more dead cells and debris will come away in the initial stages of use. This will improve and eventually disappear as moisture is regained. If the discharge has an unpleasant odour or colour, this may be evidence of a pre-existing vaginal infection so you should consult your GP.
14Can Hyalofemme cause vaginal infections?
No. None of the ingredients in Hyalofemme can cause vaginal infections. In fact, it has even been shown that Hyalofemme favours the activation of the body’s natural antimicrobial response, helping it to fight possible infections.
15I’m a cancer survivor and can’t use HRT or oestrogen creams. Can I still use Hyalofemme?
Yes. Hyalofemme is non-hormonal, paraben-free and perfume-free, but is as effective as 0.1% oestriol cream, giving you a safe and effective solution to vaginal dryness. It can be used alongside other medication. You can read more about this topic here.
16Can I use Hyalofemme after having a baby?
After pregnancy, the body needs time to get back to normal. If you are breastfeeding, you may experience vaginal dryness and may wish to use Hyalofemme. We do suggest waiting 6 weeks after a natural birth (after your 6 week or postnatal check) before using Hyalofemme and always under the guidance of your health professional.
17Can I use Hyalofemme after a hysterectomy?
Yes, but we do recommend that you seek advice from your gynaecologist or health professional as to when you can begin using Hyalofemme.
18Can I use Hyalofemme during pregnancy?
Every pregnancy is different. We recommend that you consult your midwife or GP if you would like to start using Hyalofemme during pregnancy.
19What else can I do to prevent dryness?
Dryness and infections can be aggravated by soaps, perfumes and other chemical such as bath oils and shower gels. Disinfectants and antiseptics could also cause discomfort so it is best to avoid using anything other than lukewarm water or a soap-free intimate wash for vaginal hygiene.
20Where can I get Hyalofemme?
Hyalofemme is available to purchase over the counter at most local and independent pharmacies. It can also be purchased online. If your pharmacy does not have Hyalofemme on the shelf, please speak to your pharmacist or pharmacy assistant who will be able to have the product delivered to your local store (they may need the PIP-code to order it in: 0404-7932).
