Mother’s Day UK 2025: Honouring the women who shape our lives

Breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day is good, but is it enough? Mums spend much of their time and energy looking after the well-being of everyone but themselves, so they deserve more than an annual delivery of a boiled egg with toast soldiers and lukewarm tea.

Mother’s Day is a good time to do a well-being audit for the women who nurture, guide, and support us, whether they are biological mums, grandmothers, mother figures, or any other amazing women who play a maternal role in our lives.

How is she, really? Does she need help (of course she does, it’s a question of what kind of help)? What would make her life better, and is it possible to provide it?

Ways to make mums and carers feel special this Mother’s Day

Any gift is better than no gift but anyone can tell that a bunch of supermarket daffodils and a card that doesn’t fit in the envelope means you’ve been scrabbling around Tesco at the last minute.

Here’s how to level up…

🌿 Pampering & Self-Care – Mums spend so much time caring for others, they really appreciate it when someone takes care of them. You could treat her to a spa day, but a relaxing hour or two just for herself could be really good for her if she’s busy and the kids are young. Contrarywise, when the kids have flown the nest, mums would likely love a visit or better still a jaunt out. Can you create space to give her what she most needs?

👩‍👧 Quality Time Together – The best gift is often time. Whether it’s a cosy family meal, a walk in the countryside, or a heartfelt conversation, being present is what truly matters.

💌 A Personal Touch – A handwritten letter, poem, or scrapbook filled with memories can mean more than any shop-bought gift.

Celebrating mums & their well-being

Motherhood is beautiful, rewarding, and full of love – and it also comes with challenges. From pregnancy to menopause, hormonal changes, and everything in between, women’s health often takes a back seat.

This Mother’s Day, let’s also encourage self-care as a way of honouring the women we love.

Let’s spread the message that looking after yourself is not only good for mums, it’s good for everyone around them.

A mum whose batteries are charged is happier, healthier and better placed to deal with the demands on her.

New mothers: navigating body changes

Becoming a mother is a beautiful and transformative experience, but it can also bring about significant changes to your body.

For new mothers, the physical toll of pregnancy, childbirth, and the demands of caring for a newborn can lead to discomfort, fatigue, and hormonal fluctuations.

Many women experience vaginal dryness, pelvic floor weakness, or changes in skin texture that can affect their confidence and well-being.

These challenges can sometimes be overlooked in the whirlwind of new motherhood, but it’s essential to remember that prioritising self-care and seeking support is crucial for healing and adjusting to this new phase of life.

Menopause: embracing change with confidence

Menopause is a natural stage in every woman’s life, and it comes with its own set of challenges.

The hormonal shifts during this time can lead to vaginal dryness, hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances, all of which can affect a woman’s comfort and overall quality of life.

While menopause is often portrayed as a difficult transition, it can also be an empowering time to embrace self-care and well-being.

By understanding the physical changes and seeking solutions, like vaginal moisturisers or therapies, women can navigate this life stage with confidence, restoring comfort and reclaiming their vitality.

So, this Mother’s Day, let’s celebrate the love, strength, and resilience of all mothers—and remind them just how cherished they are.

💜 Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mums out there! You are loved beyond words. 💜
